  • Meningitis

(BTH posting this for Kelsey ...)

Update sent out to church e-mail:

We came home from the hospital today (Monday) around 4:00 p.m. Kelsey did have viral meningitis (not bacterial). Strong headaches continued today as a result of her spinal tap on Saturday, so they did a blood patch on her spinal cord, which eased the headaches almost immediately. She's home and resting now, but still very weak. The doctor said it would take about a week to recover and she probably won't be quite up to par the rest of the summer.

We're grateful for God's protection in keeping Kelsey's sickness from being any worse. Didn't plan to spend the weekend in an isolation room in the hospital, but God planned it all along. Thanks for all your prayers, concern and love.

  • Extra Coffee Maker?

A plea for help from the husband of the proprietor of this little corner of the Internet. You can read the same thing on my site if you want to:

Does anyone have an extra coffee maker sitting around that they're not using for the next few weeks? See, here's the problem: Klutz that I am, I dropped the coffeepot yesterday when I took it out of the dishwasher.

(Crack, shatter, little pieces of glass falling down)  + (Kelsey in need of caffeine because she's up in the middle of the night with a month-old baby) = (Not good)

The thing was dying anyway -- it leaked on the counter pretty regularly. So I threw the whole thing in the trash and we've hooked ourselves up with one of those Gevalia deals where you buy $10 worth of coffee and get a free coffee maker. But it won't be here for a few weeks and in the meantime, Kelsey would like some coffee in the mornings (I get some at work. Funny side note -- I never drank coffee until we had Carter. Then when I had to drag my tired butt to work every day, I sucked down some coffee at the office. Now I drink it at work every morning, mostly because it's there and it's nice to drink something hot. But now I'm getting sidetracked.)

So we figured that surely one of you Owensboro Xanga-ites has an extra coffee maker sitting in your garage or on a shelf somewhere. Any takers? You'll get it back in 4-6 weeks, all cleaned up and shiny and ready to be used again. Let us know . . .

  • He's Here!

Ok I am here......well, I had a baby!:) Thank you for all of our prayers....went in on Thur at 3:00 a.m. and got started with the pitocin at 4 ish. At 7 the Dr. broke my water and I was about 3 cm. The contractions really started going but were so much more bearable than when I had Carter...I had breaks to breathe between each one and so I could focus and it was so much more doable. Around 9 or 10 I got the epidural and by 11:00 I was a 5. Ben decided to get something to eat since he hadn't had anything that day, so I told him to go take the cell phone and we would call him if we needed to get a hold of him. At 11:15 they checked me and I was an 8 and we called Ben and then 5 or so minutes later I told my mom I could feel him and I needed to push. I ended up being numb on the left side and feeling almost everything on the right since I had to stay on my left side so much. I knew I was going to have a baby and sure enough I was already 10 and ready. Needless to say there was much scurrying around and everyone got there in time and I started to push. I had to push longer than with Carter (10-15 min vs 3 pushes with C) and then it got a bit scary. The Doc said give me the vacuum ---the cord was wrapped around his neck--and had to get him out fast. He did and the cord was wrapped around one time. He was out at 11:40. He weighed 8 pounds even and was 20 1/2 inches long. We are so thankful that the doc knew and could monitor the heart rate and that they kept my blood pressure stable, etc. I get really low blood pressure a lot and between Taylor's heart rate and my blood pressure I was so glad for modern medicine!

Taylor has really dark hair--unlike Carter who had brown at this time. He loves to eat and is very aggressive so not a lot of sleep going on.  His name is  my mom's maiden name and the week we saw his heartbeat at the doctor's office in June (8 weeks along) my Grandma Taylor had died so his name is really special to us. Joseph means "he shall add" so we are needless to say praising God for His protection and love to us.

My recovery is going to be interesting since they used the vac and all so I am trying to take it easy. My mom is here and Rachel was here this weekend and they are such huge helps.

    Got to go . . . here are some photos . . .
